Senior Day Tomorrow vs. Spellman

Posted Friday, October 17, 2008 by John Fatuzzo
Tomorrow, Saturday October 18th, the Cougars Varsity Football squad will be taking on Cardinal Spellman H.S. at home at 1:30pm.  The team is asking all fans to wear red for this year's annual Senior Home Game for the Class of 2009.

The second-place Cougars are heading into their final third of the regular season starting with the Falcons, who are 3-2 (3-3 overall) on the year, tied for sixth in the CHSFL AA-A division.  It's SJB's final home game of the regular season, and they are looking to make the most of it before a two road games at Cardinal Hayes and St. Peter's to close out the year.

St. John's is looking for their third consecutive win, after the homecoming victory vs. Xavier and last week's non-league duel with L.I. Lutheran.  But they will be facing a tough Spellman Falcons team who has won two straight including a gritty 20-18 battle with Christ the King last week.

The Cougars have not played Spellman since the 2006 Division A Championship Game at SUNY Maritime, a 27-6 Falcons win.  Should this give St. John's a chip on their shoulder to win this game?  Maybe.  But the most important thing right now for SJB is to keep their momentum, and if memories of that freezing day two years ago can help the Cougars perform at a higher level, then let the game begin.

Come out and support St. John's Saturday at home, the team needs your support to perform at a higher level to reach gridiron glory.
